Hey guys, I am leading a bible study here at with the other NIST students tomorrow. We cycle the lead person, and I am doing it this week. We will be studying Joseph.
So I would like to hear some thoughts. What are some of the favorate qualities that we see in Joseph, and in what ways did he look like Christ?
Any other thoughts about Joseph?

You know for me my favorite quality is that even though through all that Joesph went through he still full heartedly followed God. He knew that God was letting this happen for a reason and he trusted him. It's so great to hear or read about someone who through thick and thin they love and trust God through the whole thing. He's an example to me that even through my "tough" times that I can still lean on God and make it through.

Joseph is one of my favorite Bible characters! Though he was completely blind to the big picture going on around him, and all his circumstances would indicate that God just didn't care, he refused to give up trust in God and instead threw himself into His arms again and again. Then God rewarded him for his faithfulness by making him a great leader and reuniting him with his family!
I think he looked a bit like Christ in the way he treated his brothers in Egypt. Though they had sinned against him, he took care of them and provided for their needs. But it was from a distance at first, because he would not reveal himself to them until he had tested them to make sure their hearts had changed. When they confessed and opened up to him, he had compassion and brought them to live with him in safety.
Kindof a distant parallel, but tell me what you guys think.

Wow Daniel, LUCKY! Joseph is truly an amazing story. I just finished reading that one myself, there are a few other things that I noticed throughout that story.
Genesis 39 : 9
9 He(Potiphar) is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except yourself, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?”
- This is amazing how Joseph truly recognizes that his sin is directly against God!!
________________
Genesis 40:8
8 They said to him, “We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.”
- And here how he recognized that only God has the interpretations. He gave no credit to himself, only to God. He was soooo humble, his whole world revolved around God and His purposes!

I am a huge fan of the Joseph story. He's a cool kid.
What amazes me most is how he steadfastly flees sin. He's given great power in the house of Potiphar. He's then given the attentions of a woman who was probably not too hard on the eyes. But still he refuses to exploit the trust that Potiphar had placed before him. That is itself is honorable. But then, he takes it even further by refusing because it would be a sin again GOD. He does all of this with a clear knowledge that she could have him jailed, killed--anything she wanted. And he does eventually wind up in jail, taking the blame for something he didn't do. I can't imagine the frustration, but what is evident is that he still trusted God. God even gives him favor in the jailer's eyes. And then blesses him by placing him in second command to the Pharoah! But through this Joseph never grows arrogant but acknowledges the work of God in his life.
Yeah....Josephs a cool fellow.

Thanks guys. Those are some of the things that stood out to me too. We had the bible study today, and I felt challenged and enthused. There is so much that I can learn from Joseph. He truly loved God and trusted Him with everything he had, even when it was just his mere existence.
