I believe that the Lord does not want us to reach a point of utter confidence in whatever we are doing. I do believe, however, that we must reach a point of confidence to walk in faith for what we believe God is asking us to do, without the fear of man. Even though we should not fear man, we should certainly respect them and listen to advice they may give. I believe that God expects us to reach at the same moment confidence and humility. We must be humbly and constantly checking our motives and asking God and ourselves and friends..."why am I doing what I am doing and who am I doing it for?" So I have summed it up in the phrase "humble confidence." The reason that this topic has been on my mind is that I have been confused by many differing opinions on topics by men that I respect. Some take one side and run with it, the others take the opposite and run as far as they can away from the other. This can be very confusing, how can I, in full confidence, follow one completely and neglect the other? I must simply humbly follow the convictions God has given me with a constant open heart to His word, His Spirit, and what others may believe.
Any thoughts on how to find this balance or what you have found helpful as you have approached difficult topics?
